Friday 14th June – Our last few hours in Venice!

We were still drawing at 11.20 this morning, catching our last glimpse of Venice! We were making the most of it, the sunshine and the fantastic views. We’ve just boarded the coach to Venice airport so we’ve said goodbye. 😢 We’ll update the blog on our journey so please keep checking today. Thanks to all the parents for their lovely messages – the group have enjoyed hearing messages from home. We’ll see you soon!

Wednesday 12th June – Venice Island, Doges Palace, St Mark’s Bell Tower, art by the canal and a meal out

Our first proper jam packed day on Venice Island didn’t leave us disappointed! It started with an extremely engaging tour of Doges Palace by our guide Francesca. Here, Kulsum, Tahsin and others impressed with their knowledge of Greek mythology. Part of the tour included visiting the prisons after following the path the prisoners would have walked through on the Bridge of Sighs. After lunch, we took the lift up St Mark’s Bell Tower to see the amazing views over the island, lagoon and beyond. We finished the day with art by Rialto Bridge along the main canal, souvenir shopping and a meal out near the hotel. As a special post art treat we had pizza (couldn’t be in Italy without having a pizza! 🇮🇹 🍕)

Tuesday 11th June – Part 2 – Malo, Mondonovo Mask Museum

After a coach ride we arrived at the mask museum in Malo. It was a very unassuming place but a fantastic experience! Our welcoming host made us feel at home amongst the masks as they explained how different masks were made, the materials used and what the masks would have been used for. We were lucky enough to try on our favourite mask – some of which were worth 750 euros! Finally, we spent the last part of our time there sketching the more detailed masks for future artwork. Can you guess the child behind the mask?!
